Moving to cheaper accommodation to cut costs

If you moved to cheaper accommodation to cut costs, please keep these things in mind.

1. Don’t feel ashamed of downgrading your accommodation. There is no award for living in an expensive neighbourhood while your account balance is begging for mercy. If moving from a three bedroom flat to a self contained apartment helps you save, do it. Your landlord is not your life coach.

It will not last long and once you get back on your feet, you can always move up again.

2. Be honest about your financial situation without announcing every detail. If people still think you’re earning big, they may continue sending bills your way. You don’t owe anybody an explanation for changing your lifestyle, but stop pretending to be financially comfortable just to maintain an image.

If you don't plan well, they will still come back and tell you, "I thought you planned well for your life." Dem go laugh you wetin no good for your back!

3. Don’t sacrifice your health to maintain your savings. Moving somewhere cheaper should not mean living in an environment with unsafe water, terrible sanitation or conditions that put your health at risk. Save money, but don't turn your body into the price of the savings.

And eat well too to avoid people chopping burial rice on your head.

4. Resist the pressure to furnish your new place like your old apartment. You can move with your mattress, fan, cooking utensils and basic necessities while gradually replacing other things. Your new landlord doesn't need to know what your previous sitting room looked like.

"I am not on this level ooo. In this town, I don drive big cars before. Forget, I get am." Then you go on to make unnecessary expenses.

5. Use the money you save to rebuild your financial security. Don't move to a cheaper apartment and then spend the difference on expensive outings, unnecessary purchases and impressing people. Let the sacrifice produce something tangible like debt repayment or business capital for you to bounce back.
