One of the scariest things I ever observed happened on our construction site few months ago.
The supervisor of a contractor was stabbed with the intent to kill by an assailant, who happened to be a disgruntled laborer who was punished by being omitted from the day’s work due to misdemeanors.
Unbeknownst to the supervisor that exempting him from the day’s work had provoked mortal intent in the laborer.
The laborer casually asked around where he could sharpen a knife. He got the knife sharpened and made his plans. He ambushed the supervisor in a corner of the site in the evening while alone and told him “now you die” and immediately went for his neck. Thank God for fast reflexes, the supervisor blocked with his hands, which the knife tore up severely. Seeing blood, the guy fled but was caught and handed to the police. The police prosecuted and jailed.
He could not accept a day’s work exemption for misdemeanor from someone who had paid him daily wages for weeks. He felt the supervisor deserved death for enforcing discipline and order.
This is the way so many people are in the world.
People must have a basic sense of equanimity.
You can be sacked. You can resign. You can leave a relationship. Someone can tell you they do not want to be your friend or associate with you anymore. You can be punished. Accountability can be demanded from the person who lent you money or gave you a job or your manager. A lady can tell you they don’t want relationship with you. You don’t have to become evil for being disciplined, asked to account or being told you are not wanted.
A simple principle for self evaluation of anything you lose, particularly relationship is this: If you don’t get a better replacement for whatever you lost, it means you were responsible for losing whatever you lost.
The only reason you will not get a better replacement is because you were wrong….you wouldn’t accept that you were wrong….and because you cannot get a better replacement, you become bitter.
Recently we had a reported case of a vulcanizer murde*ing a lady who rejected his advances. Before now, such men only went about bearing false tales to malign the character of the opposite sex who rejected overtures. It all comes down to people just being actively evil at heart because of a lack of equanimity.
