SOMEONE MIGHT BE USING YOUR BVN OR NIN WITHOUT YOU KNOWING

SOMEONE COULD BE USING YOUR BVN OR NIN WITHOUT YOU KNOWING, HERE’S HOW TO CHECK.
Your BVN, NIN and banking information are tied to your financial identity. If they fall into the wrong hands, they can potentially be misused for fŕàùdulent accounts, transactions or lòàns. The good news is that you can take a few steps to check and protect yourself.
1. CHECK YOUR BVN
Dial 5650# from the phone number linked to your bank account, or check your BVN through your bank’s official mobile app. Confirm that the details displayed belong to you.
2. CHECK YOUR NIN
Use the official NIMC Mobile ID App or the recognised NIMC retrieval channel to confirm your NIN and ensure your personal information is correct.
3. CHECK ACCOUNTS LINKED TO YOUR BVN
This is one of the most important checks. Ask your bank about obtaining a BVN/account-linkage report through the appropriate official channel. Review the accounts associated with your BVN and immediately report any account you do not recognise.
WATCH FOR RED FLAGS:
• Bank alerts from an institution where you have no account.
• Transactions you did not authorise.
• Loan messages for loans you never obtained, this often occur and people usually discard it without knowing that their BVN has been used to obtain Lòàn without their Knowledge.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: Never disclose your OTP, PIN, password or card details to anyone claiming to be a bank official. Treat unexpected requests for your BVN or NIN with caution.
If you discover suspicious activity, contact the affected bank immediately and make a formal complaint.
Your BVN and NIN are more than just numbers, they are connected to your identity and financial records. Protect them accordingly.
