Things you Should not do when you have a Case in Court

5 Things you Should never do when you have a Case in Court

Having a case in court is already stressful.
Please don't make your own case harder by doing these things. 😂

🥢 Don’t Ignore your Lawyer’s Advice

You hired a lawyer because you need legal guidance. Don't come to court and start doing things your lawyer specifically told you NOT to do.
Your lawyer says, “Don't contact the other party.”
You: “Let me just send one small message.”
That “small message” can become very important later.

🥢 Don’t Post Everything about your Case on Social Media

Not every court matter needs a Facebook update. 😂

You don't need to post:
“Tomorrow we are going to court. This is what my opponent did. This is what my lawyer will argue. Let me expose everybody!”
Be careful. What you put online can potentially become relevant to your dispute. Sometimes silence is safer than giving your opponent unnecessary information.

🥢 Don’t Contact or Threaten the Other Party because you are angry

Your opponent sends you a fr¥strating message.
You reply:
“You will see what will happen to you in court!” 😂
Please calm down. Don't turn a civil dispute into another pr0blem for yourself. Let your lawyer handle communications where appropriate.
The fact that you are angry does not mean every thought in your head needs to become a WhatsApp message.

🥢 Don’t miss your Court date Without Finding Out what to do

“I forgot.”
“My phone was on silent.”
“I thought my lawyer was going.”
“My village network was bad.” 😭😂

Depending on the type and stage of the case, failing to attend or take required steps can have serious consequences. If you cannot attend, speak to your lawyer immediately.
Don't wait until the next day before asking:
“Counsel, what happened in court yesterday?”

🥢 Don’t Assume that because you are right, you will automatically win

This is one of the biggest mistakes people make.
You tell your lawyer:
“But I know I am right!”
Your lawyer: “Okay where is your evidence?” 😂
Court is not simply about who tells the better story. Your case must be presented according to the law and supported by admissible evidence and proper procedure.

So don't just preserve your anger.
Preserve your documents.
Preserve your receipts.
Preserve relevant messages.
Preserve agreements.
Preserve other evidence relevant to your case.

And most importantly, listen to your lawyer.

Having a case in court is not the time to become your own lawyer because you watched three TikTok videos.

And if you know someone currently fighting a case in court, send this to them before they create another problem for themselves.

What is the biggest mistake you have seen someone make during a court case?
