MY LITTLE RESEARCH ON GMO's (GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISM) OR SEEDS AND HERE ARE THE DANGERS INVOLVED WITH IT FOR FARMERS AND CONSUMERS.
1. Loss of Biodiversity.
GMO's pollination can travel 60km and make all Natural seeds to become GMO's. This can make crops more vulnerable to unwanted type of production and climate change effects.
2. Dependence on Seed Companies.
GMOs cant reproduce by themselves which in the near future poor farmers wont have natural seeds to plant they must rely on companies for seedlings which becomes additional cost for farming ( e.g check price of day old broiler chicken)
3. Unknown Long-Term Health Effects.
While most scientific studies claim GMO foods are safe, some consumers and scientists worry about long-term health effects that may not yet be fully understood.
4. Higher Input Costs.
GMO crops often require specific chemical inputs (e.g., proprietary herbicides), which can be expensive, And we all know how poor some of our small scale farmers are in Nigeria and in Africa at large.
5. And finally Companies producing the GMO seeds may use that to their advantages and control the agricultural sector in terms of Seedling and chemical price.
