Clarify Roles And Expectations (Merge Where Necessary)
In many small businesses, roles overlap badly.
Two people assume the other person is responsible or three people are doing the same task inefficiently.
Or worse, nobody owns it.
You must sit down and define clearly:
- Who is responsible for what
- What success looks like in that role
- What is not their responsibility
If you have a small team, merge roles intentionally instead of leaving things undefined.
For example, if one person handles both admin and customer support, define what percentage of time goes to each and what performance looks like in both areas.
Clarity reduces conflict.
Clarity reduces excuse-making.
Clarity increases speed.
When people know exactly what they own, they stop hiding behind ambiguity.
