Why the Nigerian Navy and Nigerian Air Force Do Not Accept Graduates With Second Class Lower and Lower Credit For DSSC.
Do you know why?
It is because of these 3 major reasons:
1. High Number of Applicants vs Very Limited Slots
For Navy and Air Force DSSC, thousands apply for less than 200 to 300 slots nationwide. So they use 2:1 and Upper Credit as the first filter to reduce the crowd. Nigerian Army accepts 2:2 because they have more slots and need more manpower.
2. Professional Standard and Technical Nature
Navy and Air Force jobs are highly technical. Most of their corps are engineering, ICT, avionics, navigation, and other specialized fields. They believe a candidate with 2:1 or Upper Credit has a stronger academic foundation to cope with their professional courses after commissioning.
3. Career Progression and Competition
Officers in Navy and Air Force compete for limited promotion and for foreign courses. From experience, officers with lower grades struggle more in those technical promotion exams and courses. So they want to start with the best academically to maintain the standard of the Service.
That is why their advert always says minimum of Second Class Upper for degree holders and Upper Credit for HND holders, while the Nigerian Army can accept Second Class Lower.
