Today, it took me just 10 minutes to build and host a functional portfolio website for myself from scratch, all for free, using Claude and Netlify.
I didn't have to write a single line of code, all I did was give Claude the right prompt, and boom, I have a functional website where people can see my projects and impacts.
A live portfolio can change how people see your application instantly.
Instead of just a plain CV, get yourself a portfolio where employers can open and see a clean, modern website with your photo, experience, and skills neatly displayed. That alone makes you stand out.
And the best part? You can build it yourself in minutes without any coding experience.
So let me show you how I did mine, and also share the prompt I used
Step 1: Prepare your information first
Before opening Claude, get everything ready:
Name
Photo
Short bio
Work experience
Education
Skills
Projects
Contact details
This saves time and avoids wasting your free usage.
Step 2: Generate your portfolio with Claude
Open Claude and use this prompt:
"You are a professional web designer.
I am a complete beginner with no coding experience.
Create a modern, responsive personal portfolio website using HTML, CSS, and simple JavaScript.
Requirements:
- Single-page website
- Clean modern design
- Profile picture section
- About Me section
- CV-style experience section
- Education section
- Skills displayed as percentage bars
- Contact section
- Mobile responsive design
- Everything in one HTML file "
Then add your details.
Step 3: Download your portfolio
Instead of copying code:
Download the file from Claude
Save it as portfolio.html (HTML5 file)
Open it in your browser
Step 4: Upload to Netlify
Go to Netlify and:
Sign up / log in
Click “Add New Site”
Choose “Deploy manually”
Drag and drop your .html file
Wait a few seconds
Step 5: Share your live link
Netlify gives you a free URL that you can share with employers, prospective clients, friends, family, and online.
A CV tells people what you can do.
A live portfolio shows them what you do.
I have attached the links to my portfolio, Claude, and Netlify
And do well to share your portfolio in the comment section once it's generated, an employer might locate you here.
I wish you all the best
